Department

EIIP is a programme implemented by JCPI unit which is part of the ILO’s Employment Policy Department. The position is in the Job Creation through Public Investment (JCPI) Unit, within the Development and Investment (DEVINVEST) Branch of the Employment Policy Department. This Unit is implementing the  Employment Intensive Investment Programme (EIIP) mainly in Africa, Asia and Middle East Countries. EIIP supports ILO member States in the design, formulation, implementation and evaluation of policies and programmes aiming to address unemployment and underemployment through public investment, typically in infrastructure development. EIIP reinforces and builds institutional and operational capacity to provide productive and decent work that has an economic, environmental and social impact..

Learning areas

As an intern you will be exposed to work in an area that promotes job creation through infrastructure investments delivery.  This program has evolved over the past 40 years from a series of labour-intensive infrastructure programmes to a comprehensive and integrated package of interventions which contributes to both the provision of improved and climate resilient inclusive infrastructure, and the creation of decent jobs.

In line with EIIP Communication Strategy, the intern will assist JCPI unit for:

1.    Collecting and categorising existing communication tools in EIIP projects
2.    Assisting on the production of EIIP promotional videos and other communication tools
3.    Assisting for the dissemination of these products through different communication channels ( social media, ILO ,…) and upload  them in the EIIP webpage
4.    Prepare EIIP countries briefs in collaboration EIIP field colleagues
5.    Support the EIIP team in maintaining and updating the EIIP webpages, database and web content management systems, classifying information in compliance with applicable standards
6.    Any other tasks associated with the EIIP that could be requested by the unit or branch.
You would be working with specialists inside the ILO as well as other partners. You will be able to take part in ongoing meetings and debates in this area and assist with communication related activities as well as workshops and other events to disseminate this information. Interns should expect to devote 10% to 20% of their time to administrative and communication related tasks.

Required profile

Education

Communication, Education in Digital and Knowledge Management.

The candidate should be enrolled in their final year of graduate degree programme or should have completed such a programme no longer than 1 years ago (mandatory)

Experience

Any relevant work experience and knowledge of IT would be an advantage

Languages

Working (both oral and written) knowledge of at least one of the ILO’s official languages (English, French, Spanish)

Competencies

Adaptable to an international, multicultural and multilingual environment, good communication skills and be able to work in a team.

Selection process:

Following a first screening by the Human Resources Development Department (HRD), hiring departments will short-list applicants. You will be directly contacted should an internship opportunity match your profile. If still eligible, you may apply to the next roster.

If shortlisted, you may be contacted by the hiring department for a written test and/or interview. The ILO may use communication technologies such as Skype, Video or teleconference, e-mail, etc for the assessment and evaluation of candidates.

Stipend:

As an intern in Geneva, you will receive a stipend of 2450 CHF per month from the ILO, unless you receive funding through another institution (for example your university or a foundation). If you receive partial funding, ILO will cover the difference to ensure you receive 2450 CHF per month. Your travel to Geneva will be at your own expense.

In addition to the amounts referred above, each intern shall receive the amount of CHF45 per month, or the equivalent amount in the currency in which the monthly stipend is paid, which is a contribution from the Office towards the cost of medical insurance to cover the period of the internship.

Insurance:

Please note that the ILO does not take responsibility for any costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship. You will be responsible for your own insurance coverage for illness and accidents for the duration of the internship at the duty station (whether Geneva or the field).
