Job Description

  • Adhere to HSE, Code of Conduct, Business Integrity and all other applicable company policies and procedures at all times.
  • Manage and optimise the operational and contractual aspects of the BFOET paper/chain activities.
  • Manage and optimise the physical operations of the North Sea trading portfolio, including equity, third party and traded cargoes.
  • Verify the coherence and the feasibility of Trading negotiations and formalize commercial contracts.
  • Evaluate all the costs derived from transactions and communicate all operational data having a financial impact on Trading results (prices, hedges, freight, currency etc.).
  • Follow up the vessels chartered by the Group (spot, COA or T/C) and optimize the rotations and loading plans.
  • Coordinate logistics of all loading/discharging by sea and/or overland and avoid/mitigate any potential hazardous situations.
  • Ensure compliance with vetting procedures for seagoing vessels and barges.
  • Nominate essential service providers (independent inspectors, loss controllers, additive suppliers etc.) and control the accuracy and consistency of the obtained results.
  • Obtain financial guarantees from counterparties, control and/or amend them before cargo loading/unloading, in conjunction with the Credit department.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory aspects (Customs, VAT etc.) in collaboration with respective support departments.
  • Ensure storage and process contracts are diligently managed (quantities/qualities/financial exposure/customs etc.).
  • Identify the cause of any encountered operational problems and ensure resolution through coordination with all affected stakeholders, mitigating costs and consequences for the Group.
  • Submit damage reports to the insurers and compile and follow claim files.
  • Manage the invoicing and payment process and recovery of funds when applicable.
  • Manages and optimises equity lifting by having an in depth understanding of Lifting Agreements and Terminal Procedures, including Availabilities, Payment Quantities etc.
  • Share expertise and provide training and operational coaching, enabling colleagues to gain autonomy, versatility and efficiency in their tasks.

Master competency levels in key areas applicable to the role to be recognised as a reference internally and in some cases externally, to help develop strategies and best practice in those areas.

Objectives:

  • Responsible for daily coordination and scheduling of oil whether by vessel, pipeline, stock or paper transfer covering the Groups trading and marketing supply in Europe.
  • Responsible for resorting to all required means to achieve the result anticipated by Trading. The jobholder is autonomous in their decisions and has entire responsibility of operational means.
  • Within the framework of Customers relationships and given the financial and political stakes, the jobholder optimizes the logistic and commercial flows allowing the complete satisfaction of customers.

Context and environment

  • Fast-paced, dynamic trading environment with time-sensitive, business critical activities requiring 24/7 responsiveness, strong planning and organizational skills and attention to details. Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Key interface and internal coordinator between all involved internal departments (Trading, Treasury, Credit, Financial Control, Accounting, Shipping, Vetting, Demurrage, AQB etc.) and third parties.

Candidate profile

At least 8 years of experience in commodities, including Crude Oil Trading Operations plus Middle Office or Analytics experience. A key requirement is to have a minimum of 2.5 years of North Sea physical and paper (BFOET) experience at an organisation that is active in this trade.

Extensive knowledge of all international trading flows and processes as well as risk management associated with oil logistics activities.

Excellent organizational and problem solving skills, solid negotiation skills, solution-oriented attitude, collaborative mind-set, proactivity. Ability to seize the big picture perspective. Strong sense of accountability and commitment. Strong command of Occupational Information Systems.
Excellent interpersonal skills, at ease in transversal relations, pedagogic approach with the ability to train and coach junior operators.
Fluent in English, French and any other language considered as a plus.
