The job:

Concern’s strategic plan (2021 – 25) commits the organization to increased collaboration with the private sector as we believe that this is critical to achieving a world where no one lives in poverty, fear or oppression.

The Partnerships and Philanthropy Manager will play a key role in helping us achieve this commitment by identifying funding opportunities and building relationships with trusts, foundations and the private sector across a number of geographies. The role has an international focus, building partnerships with corporate and foundation donors outside of our established fundraising markets (Ireland, UK, USA, and South Korea), to fund key elements of Concern’s work overseas.  The post holder will need to build strong internal relationships with Concern’s international programme teams in order to develop a deep understanding of our work and identify a range of funding opportunities.

The Partnerships and Philanthropy Manager will also work with internal and external stakeholders to explore new funding models that have the potential to support Concern’s work. This will involve the identification and testing of new models for collaboration and support to enable Concern to more effectively achieve its mission.

In carrying out the role, he/she will lead a small team in developing plans, budgetary goals, and key performance indicators to help us achieve our growth ambition.  The team sits in the Fundraising and Development Directorate, and collaborates closely with colleagues in the directorate and across the broader organization.

If you join us, this is what you will be doing:

  • Develop and implement a strategy to build sustainable revenue from international corporate and trust/foundation partners, focusing on the development of new and the retention of existing funders.
  • Lead a small team (Business Development Officer) in setting and managing budgetary goals, key performance indicators, and an operational plan to deliver revenue growth, as part of Concern’s overall Development & Fundraising Strategy.
  • Work closely with colleagues across various directorates to develop compelling cases for support for partnership with the private sector and trust funders.
  • Manage relationships with funders and partners, ensuring timely reporting on impact and key success metrics. This will include the co-ordination of internal stakeholders to ensure that partner contract terms and expectations are met and there is a clarity around roles of responsibilities, budgets, activity and reporting frameworks across all stakeholders.
  • Play a lead role in identifying and testing new models for collaboration with the private sector and international funders that enable Concern to more effectively achieve its mission. This includes playing a lead role in Concern’s Carbon Financing Working Group.
  • Collaborate across Concern’s international offices in the development of private sector relationships and lead the implementation of Concern’s private sector engagement strategy.
  • Represent Concern on external and partner forums, and use these forums to generate quality leads in new markets for Concern, including meeting with potential new supporters and presenting both the organisation’s work and specific programme-focused work to them.
  • Accept and pursue any new objectives or responsibilities that may be assigned by your manager/director.

Skills you will bring :

  • Ability to influence and coordinate internal and external senior stakeholders in the development and delivery of compelling cases for support from the private sector (trusts, foundations, and companies);
  • A good understanding of international development programme work, and of working with private and trust funders in this field;
  • A track-record of securing new funding from trusts, foundation, and companies and meeting/exceeding financial targets;
  • Experienced in team/stakeholder coordination for successful project delivery and reporting back to donors;
  • Donor relationship management at a senior level;
  • Experience of managing and developing people;
  • Excellent written communication skills, with specific experience in grant and proposal writing;
  • Experience of grant management and reporting on complex international projects;
  • An interest in innovation and new funding models and the confidence and tenacity to drive the development of new ways of funding our work;
  • Good networking skill (both internal and external);
  • Strong financial / budgeting experience;
  • Willingness to travel overseas if needed;
  • Experienced in all Microsoft packages and the use of Customer Relationship Management systems;
  • Third level degree.
