About the Role

As a Trustee of the Board, along with your fellow Board members, you will be expected to have oversight of the organisation’s strategic direction, performance and governance and participate fully in Board meetings and Sub-Committees as appropriate (Risk and Audit Committee, the Remunerations Committee, the International Clinical Governance Committee, Nominations Committee, Finance Sub-Committee)

It is estimated that you will be required to dedicate about 20 days per annum to your Trustee role.

MSI operates clinical services as a social business, and as such, is looking for Trustees with experience in business, commercial operations, clinical services, finance, and governance.

About You

As a Board member, you would need to understand and respect the philosophy of the organisation as laid out in the MSI Policy Statement including the focus on service delivery, measurable outcomes that MSI seeks to continually improve, and an empowerment of country organisations and leaders.

All Board members must have a commitment to ‘children by choice not by chance’ and the core role of access to safe abortion provision in MSI’s mission. You must be unapologetically pro-choice.

Key Responsibilities:

·Attend 4 Board Meetings per Annum. The majority of attendance is expected in person. The majority of board meetings are held in London but other key strategic locations may be chosen.

·Attend, participate and potentially Chair Sub-Committee meetings

·Provide sound governance oversight of the organisation, in accordance with Charity Commissions rules governing Trustee roles.

·Participate actively in Board meetings and engage with the management team as required.

To perform this role, it is desirable that you have the following skills

·Good understanding of charity governance and/or willingness to learn.

·A strong ability to engage with others and articulate opinions

·Ability to evaluate and absorb complex new material and form a judgement or recommendation

·Operating experience in different countries and cultures

To perform this role, it is desirable that you have the following experience:

·A strong track record of delivery in your field of expertise

·Operating large complex multinational customer-focused competitive business.

·Insight and understanding of the changing social, cultural and economic environment of the markets in which MSI operates, MSI clients, their need for services

·Development of strategy and management of risk, scrutiny, and evaluation of financial and performance statements.

·Operating business or an operational charity and living for a sustained period in Asia.

·Operating business or an operational charity and living for a sustained period in Africa.

·Chairing of a Board or the experience to do so and knowledge of good governance practice.
