About you

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned professional with a proven track record of success in securing large contracts. You possess a wealth of experience in business development, having held senior positions managing bid exercises for local and/or health authorities. You are adept at leading and developing teams of specialists, creating an organisational memory and fostering a culture of knowledge sharing within your team.

You are a collaborative individual, able to work effectively with both internal and external stakeholders to achieve the maximum value for the organisation. You have a deep understanding of the importance of subject matter experts in creating winning bids. You possess experience in developing and delivering team training and/or sourcing external training resources to support team development. You actively advise and support operational teams in developing all aspects of business cases, from service models to staffing structures and risk management.

You are a champion for inclusive practice and diversity and are willing to travel and work throughout the UK as needed. While not required, a willingness to work outside of normal hours on occasion is a plus.

Key responsibilities

The holder of this role will be responsible for leading a variety of key responsibilities:
  • Monitoring external environment, tracking and analysing opportunities, and identifying trends to inform business development strategies.
  • Developing and maintaining the organisation’s approach to big management, designing relevant processes, leading core bid teams and developing training programs to support income generation targets.
  • Managing the bid process for high-value contracts, coaching operational teams and managing bid debriefs.
  • Developing and maintaining organisational tools to capture and share best practices in tendering and contracting, reviewing internal contracting procedures, developing relevant policies and procedures, and maintaining databases and contract resources to equip the team and organisation.
  • Being an active member of national steering groups, project boards and working groups, liaising with external bodies and working with fundraising colleagues to ensure clarity of commissioned services and potential fundraising packages.

To be successful in this position you should have the following:

  • Ability to present complex information in a comprehensive and compelling manner;
  • Ability to assess, comprehend and manage complex written and financial information quickly and accurately;
  • Advanced level of proficiency with Microsoft Office;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to collaborate with others both internally and externally;
  • Experience in project/bid management accreditation;
  • Knowledge of health, local authority and voluntary sector;
  • Strong leadership skills and experience in managing and developing a specialist team.
