Functions

As a Nuclear Dismantling Engineer, you will:

  • Coordinate the entire dismantling process of the radioactive components in the CERN Neutrino to Gran Sasso (CNGS) target area, including the pion production target, the respective focusing elements, the helium vessels as well as the concrete and iron shielding components;
  • Plan and execute scenarios for dismantling, define the intervention modes, the technologies to be employed, the risks and the safety measures required, focusing on pragmatic approaches;
  • Understand the mechanical and operational aspects associated to the design and construction of lifting and handling equipment;
  • Carry out the technical supervision of mechanical electromechanical equipment, including planning and coordination of tasks and ensuring worksite organisation;
  • In collaboration with the project leader, support the execution of the activity, by ensuring distribution of the project schedule and its implementation by coordinating the work of different contractors and multi-disciplinary teams across CERN;
  • Draft technical documentation in line with the project requirements and contribute to the documentation to be provided to the Tripartite Authorities;
  • Be responsible for specification and follow-up of technical aspects of a contract, including search and selection of suppliers as well as drafting of commercial documents;
  • Ensure that environmental, quality and health and safety policies are applied on the work sites, including in terms of radiation safety as well as radioactive waste management;
  • Support the upgrade and consolidation activities associated to the HL-LHC dump upgrade and North Area consolidation and physics improvement projects (TCC2 and TCC8 target areas) specifically related to dismantling, clean-up and upgrade works.

Qualifications

Master’s degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of nuclear or chemical engineering or a related field.

Language skills:

  • Spoken and written English: the ability to draw-up technical specifications and/or scientific reports, and/or to make oral presentations.
  • Basic knowledge of French language or an undertaking to acquire it rapidly.
