Job Description

The International Muon Collider Collaboration hosted by CERN investigates the feasibility of a muon collider as a most promising sustainable path towards very high collision energies.

This present position is part of a Design Study co-financed by the European Commission. It is focused on the baseline concept of the RF systems for the novel Muon Cooling Complex (MCC) of the high energy muon collider study as well as on the conceptual design of the RF system for the Muon Cooling Test Facility (MCTF) as the next step towards muon collider. Based on the input from the beam dynamics a consistent set of parameters for all RF cavities and associated RF systems will be elaborated creating backbone of the conceptual design of the RF system for the MCC. For certain specific examples of such a cavity which will be used for the MCTF, more advanced engineering design will be performed including 3D RF design and thermo-mechanical simulations, as well as consideration of integration into the cooling cells for operation at gradients up to 30 MV/m in RF cavities that will be placed in magnetic fields of up to 13 T. The impact of the beam loading on the muon energy spread will have to be investigated and appropriate mitigating measures proposed.
